Overheard conversations, lots of gallery content, I'm off next week
If you missed the boat on ‘it’s hot’ content then you’ll have your chance in next week for the next heatwave. Though a decade ago these posts felt more fun, and now it’s tinged with a bit of ‘I need to train my daughter to fight in the 2050s water wars’.
I’m also taking an overdue break next week so you’ll have to find your bullet points elsewhere.
Content of this week
One of the best things about Wimbledon is the overheard conversations, or, ‘the kind of country people imagine Britain is after watching Paddington 2’. I’ve seen people recording their kids conversations in the playground (a bit iffy to be honest), but there’s something in the candid that appeals to people. Put microphones on your visitors basically.
They say they love you but do they even know your favourite type of medieval reliquary?
Pulling the roller racking out in a gallery feels like opening up presents on Christmas day. I have no idea what these people are saying, I just love the slow reveal (and so do 27k other people).
This is by far one of the better ‘someone did something’ posts, this time from the Roman Baths. A student offered to translate their audio guide for free and got to meet Stephen Fry <3
Meccha Chameleon has been kicking off recently, a game where one team has to disguise themselves and the other team has to find them. I’ve seen a lot of clips of people disguising themselves in artworks.
I feel like this kind of video would work for the kind of people cultural organisations work with, or even with people who work within them. I don’t know the secret sauce though - it’s definitely a bit of cinematography, good editing, just generally knowing how to tell a story?
Another common archivist feeling that somehow has over 55k Likes.
The bullet point bit
If you ever feel like it’s unprofessional to make weird goose analogies in your presentations, just remember that the CEO of SoftBank gets away with it.
When you log into Hackney’s free WiFi they don’t ask you for an email, they ask you to do a drawing which is then put up on an online gallery. (coincidentally Florence, the founder of the Vagina Museum, was just elected as a Green councillor there)
Personal stuff I do for me and you can just skip this if you like
🎮📖 what I’m consuming as a consumer
I put on the new Avatar and I struggled to give a shit.
I’m ploughing through Clarkson’s Farm and remain convinced that a museum documentary would do numbers.
I took immense satisfaction in growing the Ottoman Empire in Europa Universalis V to the point of capturing Rome and converting it to Islam.
I am, and will forever be tiling our bathroom.
